PowerStream Once Again Recognized as One of 'Canada's Greenest Employers'

Community-Owned Utility Acknowledged for Environmental Leadership for Third Consecutive Year

VAUGHAN, ON--(Marketwired - April 22, 2016) - PowerStream has been recognized for its commitment to sustainability by being named one of 'Canada's Greenest Employers' for the third consecutive year.

A subset of the 'Canada's Top 100 Employers' project, 'Canada's Greenest Employers' is an annual competition operated by Mediacorp Canada, the country's largest publisher of quality employment information. The green designation recognizes companies who are leaders in integrating environmental awareness and practices into their corporate mandate and culture.

Organizations are evaluated by Mediacorp Canada based on the following criteria:

  • The unique environmental initiatives and programs they have developed;
  • The extent to which they have been successful in reducing the organization's environmental footprint;
  • The degree to which their employees are involved in these programs and whether they contribute any unique skills; and
  • The extent to which these initiatives have become linked to the employer's public identity and whether they attract new people to the organization.

PowerStream has been recognized for its various successful green employee programs including carpooling, vanpooling and participation in annual Smart Commute events, as well as for its specialty recycling and waste diversion initiatives. The utility was also acknowledged for its commitment to creating innovative solutions to energy-grid demand, as demonstrated through its many solar and smart grid projects, including its residential solar-storage initiative, Advanced Power Pricing program and Micro Grid Demonstration Project. The company also advocates the benefits of energy efficiency and conservation through its many Conservation and Demand Management (CDM) programs.
