PowerStream Recalls Seasonal LED Lights

YORK REGION, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 24, 2006) - As a result of a product safety alert issued today by Ontario's Electrical Safety Authority (ESA), PowerStream has decided to recall the 36-bulb seasonal LED light strings the company distributed at several exchange events held recently in Vaughan, Richmond Hill and through the Town of Markham's recycling depots.

The light strings in question were distributed to PowerStream customers on the following dates and at these locations:

November 12 - from 3 - 6 p.m. at the Sports Village in Vaughan

November 18 - from 1 - 3 p.m. at Al Palladini Community Centre in Vaughan

November 19 - from 12 - 4 p.m. at Hillcrest Mall in Richmond Hill

November 1-24 - Town of Markham Recycling Depots

PowerStream has taken this course of action to inform residents and provide substitute sets of lights as a precautionary step following safety concerns raised by both the ESA as well as some residents who had received the 36-bulb seasonal LED light strings. A number of other utilities in the province, who purchased the LED strings, from the same supplier have similar concerns and are issuing recalls of the product in their respective service territories as well. The matter has also been brought to the attention of the Canadian Standards Association.

Any PowerStream customer possessing a 36-bulb seasonal LED light string received from PowerStream through these events or by other means prior to November 24, 2006 may return the lights for replacement sets between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, to either of the company's two office locations:

Markham - 8100 Warden Avenue (Northwest corner of Highway 407 and Warden Avenue)

Vaughan - 2800 Rutherford Road (located in behind the Police Station off of Melville Road)

PowerStream is emphasizing to all its customers that only seasonal LED lights distributed previously by the company will be exchanged at these two locations.

The company regrets any inconvenience this may have caused its customers. Further questions may be directed to PowerStream customer service at customerservice@powerstream.ca or by calling 1- 877-963-6900.
