CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Oct. 9, 2012) - Poynt Corporation (TSX VENTURE:PYN) ("Poynt Corp." or the "Company"), a global leader in mobile local search and advertising, today announced that it has surpassed ten million users on the Poynt Android Platform ("Poynt for Android" or the "Platform for Android"), and has released a new and improved version that is optimized for Android 4.0.
"With a 300% increase in our Android user base year-over-year, Android is our fastest growing and most popular device platform," said Andrew Osis, CEO, Poynt Corp. "The overwhelming success of Poynt for Android demonstrates that users expect an engaging, accurate local search experience."
The new and improved version of Poynt for Android builds upon the Company's recent achievements on the Platform by introducing a bold new look for Poynt along with several technical improvements and key enhancements to the user interface inspired in part by user feedback from the Poynt Android Beta launched in July, 2012. New features include improved battery life and network bandwidth, a redesigned tiled dashboard and weather display. The updated Platform also has additional settings options for enhanced customization and drawer-style navigation.
The updated Platform for Android follows a recent successful reboot of Poynt for iPhone. According to Osis, "As leaders in the mobile local search and advertising space, Poynt is well positioned for growth beyond the Android platform. As the Company continues to optimize for such platforms as iOS 6, we have put ourselves in an excellent position to grow and thrive on all major smartphones globally."
The new version of Poynt for Android is immediately available in North America, Europe and Australia on Google Play at play.google.com. Poynt is also available as a free download over-the-air from your Android browser at m.poynt.com.
About the Poynt Platform
Poynt is a convenient and timesaving GPS-enabled mobile local search and advertising platform that connects consumers to local offers, businesses, events, restaurants, movie theatres, gas prices and weather information at the moment they are looking to buy or acquire products or services. Poynt provides consumers with the ability to move beyond discovery of their local area to view movie trailers and reviews, buy movie tickets, click-to-call businesses, get directions, browse listing websites, read reviews and book dining reservations or find and interact with local coupons and offers.
Poynt provides contextual and relevant advertising to users performing local queries and its revenue model is based on user queries, page views, advertising and transactions within the platform. Each user query generates several page views, which are monetized through display advertising and sponsored listings paid for by advertisers. These advertising placements generate revenues on a cost per thousand impressions (CPM) basis or on a cost per click (CPC) basis. Transactions, such as ticket sales and restaurant reservations, also contribute to revenues on a fee for service basis.
