Practices Merger Increases Value for the Lean Community: Umstot Project and Facilities Solutions, LLC and The ReAlignment Group of California, LLC Emerge as Key Provider of Lean Coaching Services

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - January 07, 2015) - David Umstot, PE, President of Umstot Project and Facilities Solutions, LLC has announced a merger with the The ReAlignment Group of California, LLC, headed by Dan Fauchier, CMF. In 2014 Fauchier's division was spun off from Denver-based The ReAlignment Group, Ltd. to enhance a focus on California, but maintains a strong alliance and collaboration with the company he and Dick Bayer co-founded a decade ago.

"Our new, stronger California-based company will provide a full array of Lean services to the AEC Industry and the Owner community," says Umstot, "as well as a unique world-class approach to Lean in the public sector and the private sector." Fauchier adds, "Our approach bridges the gap between theory and practice to provide increasing value to our clients. This will be the strongest, broadest Lean services group in the Western US. The Lean design and construction market is rapidly growing and this merger will allow us to leverage our strengths to better address this growth and meet our clients' needs."

With a history of building megaprojects worldwide for Bechtel, David Umstot is best known for his roles in overseeing $1.5 Billion capital programs at San Diego Unified School District and then the $1.6 Billion Proposition S & N capital building programs at San Diego Community College District, where a 2014 study of his introduction of lean design and construction demonstrated the implementation of lean practices saved taxpayers an average of $900,000 per project and reduced facilities maintenance costs from $3.93 per square foot in 2010 to $1.46 per square foot in 2013. "David has been honored by the Design Build Institute of America (and is its 2015 Western Pacific Region President), the Construction Management Association of America, American Society of Civil Engineers, and California Community Colleges Board of Governor's for Energy & Sustainability Leadership," notes partner Summer Umstot, herself a Certified Lean practitioner.

Fauchier is well known among the San Diego public owner community for his work helping owners address their Top 4 Issues ( in 2010 and 2014, and in the Lean design and construction community where he is widely considered to be among the top Lean Last Planner® pull planning coaches and educators in the US.

On their announcement, Lean Construction Institute's (LCI) Executive Director, Dan Heinemeier, remarked, "I am encouraged to learn of the teaming up of David Umstot and Dan Fauchier in a new working partnership to continue the deployment of Lean tools and techniques for clients. Both Dan and Dave have been active, long-time members and supporters of LCI, teach in numerous programs we sponsor, and bring their unique leadership skills to supporting our Communities of Practice and their programming."

Umstot says, "Dan, Summer and I are strong believers that there is a better way in planning, design, construction and facilities management. The current project delivery model is broken. We can help our clients achieve better outcomes. This merger increases our capacity to serve our customers and sets the stage for growth."
