Prairie Village Dentist Published in Prestigious Dentistry Journal

PRAIRIE VILLAGE, KS--(Marketwired - January 31, 2015) - Dr. Grant Smith, a comprehensive Prairie Village dentist, was published this month in an adjunct to The Journal of the American Dental Association about his use of the cavity detection Carivu device from Dexis. Dr. Smith has used a Carivu device as part of his daily practice for several years. The handheld device uses near-infrared light to detect tooth decay and other dental issues that can escape the naked eye.

By using the Carivu, Dr. Smith said he is able to find and correct small issues before they become serious dental problems. Carivu uses no radiation, provides images in real time and is an excellent alternative to traditional dental films.

"It's nice that I've made good impressions on the dental companies that I work with, such that they want to use my positive experiences to help inform other dentists about their products," Dr. Smith said.

Dr. Smith was introduced to dentistry by his father, who is the former owner of the practice. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. Following his graduation, he completed his residency at the school's special patient care clinic. Dr. Smith purchased the practice from his father and built a new location in 2013.

Dr. Smith's practice has eight dental operatories and an in-office dental laboratory for fabrication of bleach trays, bite guards and partial implants. He offers cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry and preventive care in his state-of-the-art facility. The office uses a huge sterilization area with autoclaves; digital X-rays with a digital pano machine; intraoral cameras; DentalVibe to reduce pain of injections; soft-tissue laser; and Diagnodent. Individual treatments include Snap-On Smile; tray whitening; teeth whitening with Zoom! whitening; crowns; fillings; cavity risk analysis with CariFree program; fluoride varnish; mouthguards for sports; TMJ pain relief; dental implants; partial implants; denture fabrication; and periodontal treatments.

Patients who visit Dr. Smith know that he is an affordable dentist who focuses on preventive care. The revolutionary system CariFree allows Dr. Smith to detect why patients are getting cavities. The information is then given to the patients so they can reverse the process before drilling or a filling is needed. Dr. Smith also has the ability to test patient's saliva for PH and bacteria levels.

Another member of the practice, Dr. Tony Hockett, received his dental degree from the University of Iowa. He seeks out continuing education courses in order to update his skills in technology and dentistry techniques. Dr. Hockett has a passion for treatment and diagnosis.

Dr. Smith has in-office specialists for orthodontics, endodontics and oral surgery. To find out the cost of cosmetic dentistry, visit the website at or call 913-214-8474.
