Prairie Village Dentist to Participate in Charity Dancing Event

PRAIRIE VILLAGE, KS--(Marketwired - March 29, 2015) - Dr. Grant Smith, a leading Prairie Village dentist, will participate in a dancing charity event to provide health and dental care to Kansas City's homeless population.

Dr. Smith will dance with Jessica MacCuley on May 2 at the Overland Park Convention Center during the annual event "Dancing With a Mission." The event benefits the World Outreach Foundation, an organization that provided health care to more than 1,000 Kansas City homeless residents last year. The organization began serving the Kansas City community in 2004.

Dr. Smith will be one of 12 local stars performing during the dance event. Participants can cast votes for their favorite team using the event website, www.dancingwithamission.org. Each vote costs $10.

The event begins at 5:30 p.m., and the dance competition kicks off at 7:30 p.m. The fun-filled night will include dinner and a silent auction.

Dr. Smith said he has been learning his dance moves for the last several weeks and looks forward to the fundraiser.

"The World Outreach Foundation touches hundreds of lives every year, so it's a great honor to have the opportunity to participate in this event," Dr. Smith said. "The goal is to help bring awareness and raise funds for this tremendous organization that serves an underserved population in our community."

Dr. Smith was introduced to dentistry by his father, who is the former owner of the practice. He graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry. Following his graduation, Dr. Smith completed his residency at the school's special patient care clinic. The Prairie Village dentist purchased the practice from his father and built a new location in 2013.

Dr. Smith's practice, 3700 W. 83rd St. Suite 111, has eight dental operatories and an in-office dental laboratory for fabrication of bleach trays, bite guards and partial implants. He offers cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry and preventive care in his state-of-the-art facility. The office uses a huge sterilization area with autoclaves; digital X-rays with a digital pano machine; intraoral cameras; DentalVibe to reduce pain of injections; soft-tissue laser; and Diagnodent. Individual treatments include Snap-On Smile; tray whitening; teeth whitening with Zoom! whitening; crowns; fillings; cavity risk analysis with CariFree program; fluoride varnish; mouthguards for sports; TMJ pain relief; dental implants; partial implants; denture fabrication; and periodontal treatments.

Dr. Smith uses the revolutionary system CariFree, which allows him to detect why patients are getting cavities. The information is then given to the patients so they can reverse the process before drilling or a filling is needed. Dr. Smith also has the ability to test patient's saliva for PH and bacteria levels.

Another member of the practice, Dr. Tony Hockett, received his dental degree from the University of Iowa. He seeks out continuing education courses to update his skills in technology and dentistry techniques. Dr. Hockett has a passion for treatment and diagnosis.
