Pravala Car Awarded $9.7 Million Government Contribution to Help Bring Self-Driving Cars to the Masses

Contribution Adds Highly Skilled Jobs and Puts Canada in Spotlight as Leader in Autonomous Driving

KITCHENER, ON--(Marketwired - April 19, 2016) -  Pravala Car announced today that is has been awarded a $9.7 Million contribution to bring its Connected Vehicle Gateway (CVG) Platform from proof of concept to full production and distribution, working with partners such as Continental Automotive Systems and global automobile manufacturers to help bring connected vehicles and self-driving cars to roads across the world.

"Continental has been partnering with Pravala Car for a number of years as part of our Holistic Connectivity strategy, where vehicles become the next Smart Device," said Roland Bock, Director Product Management Infotainment & Connectivity, Continental. "Pravala's Smart Telematics technology can become a key part of the Continental product offering, which keeps vehicles connected even in areas with weak reception by seamlessly managing different connectivity types -- like 3G, LTE and Wi-Fi. Continental and Pravala are working together with a common vision of vehicles as part of the 'Internet of Everything.'"

The contribution is part of Canada's Automotive Supplier Innovation Program (ASIP), a five-year, $100 million program to support Canadian-based suppliers developing innovative products in the automotive sector. It was presented today at Pravala's headquarters by The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development; and by The Honourable Bardish Chagger, Minister of Small Business and Tourism as part of Innovation Week.

The automotive industry is quickly evolving as vehicles are connected to the Internet. In order for self-driving vehicles to be safe for road use, cars must talk to each other and to their surroundings. Pravala's technology is focused on intelligently managing the vehicle's connection to the Internet in order to improve the safety, reliability, functionality and efficiency of connected cars.

Pravala's CVG platform is at the leading edge in its ability to use multiple networks simultaneously for providing faster speeds and uninterrupted connectivity to vehicles as they switch networks. The CVG's ability to manage connectivity has attracted interest from several auto manufactures and tier 1 suppliers as they look for innovative ways to improve communication between the car and the cloud.

"In order for self-driving cars to become a reality for consumers, vehicles must communicate with each other and their surroundings, and our technology provides the always on, everywhere connectivity that is necessary," said Richard Wagner, president of Pravala Car. "We are excited to be part of a team that positions Canada to become a leader in the fully connected and autonomous driving cars of today and tomorrow. Pravala is honoured to have been awarded this contribution by the Canadian government."

Continental, a global automotive supplier, is leveraging Pravala's software expertise to advance Continental's connected car mobility offerings, keeping vehicles connected even in areas with weak reception. Together with Continental and multiple Canadian automobile manufacturers, Pravala is playing an instrumental role in launching a commercially viable self-driving and fully connected vehicle, which aligns with the objectives outlined in Canada's Science and Technology Strategy.

Pravala's project is heavily weighted in research, development and engineering and requires significant financial resources in order to rapidly grow the team. As a direct result of the contribution, the Company expects substantial growth and the addition of highly skilled jobs at its Kitchener, Ontario headquarters.

"We're proud to be a Canadian company, and at Pravala we are committed to keeping jobs here at home and fully supporting the Canadian automotive industry as a leader and innovator in science and technology," Wagner added.
