Premier Healthcare Alliance Helps Member Hospitals Lower Cost of Care and Improve Quality With StreetSmarts®

StreetSmarts® Inc. Knowledge Sharing Platform Allows Premier Members to Instantly Share Clinical Knowledge and Experience

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwire - September 16, 2009) - The Premier Inc. healthcare alliance, a quality and cost improvement alliance of more than 2,200 hospitals nationwide, has selected the StreetSmarts® Inc. on-demand knowledge and collaboration platform to help instantly share clinical knowledge and experience among its members.

The solution allows for the delivery of data from Premier's Perspective™ database, the nation's most comprehensive knowledge bank of clinical, financial and comparative data, across the Premier alliance, creating a single source of authoritative knowledge, called the Performance Improvement Portal™. This portal was designed to tap into the best practices from top performing hospitals and deliver this knowledge on-demand as a virtual coach to their broader member network.

StreetSmarts® reduces the time it takes for member subscribers to find the answers to the information they need. Subscribers can also ask questions through the solution and through its built in intelligence system, StreetSmarts® is able to route those questions to the most appropriate expert for response and the answers are then fed back into the centralised system to be reused if and when similar questions arise.

"At a time when the healthcare industry is facing sweeping reform, healthcare providers are looking for ways to incorporate change controls, quality measures and best practices," said Leslie Schultz, Ph. D, director of Knowledge Transfer for Premier. "StreetSmarts® knowledgebase platform has given Premier a proven method for incorporating regulatory and policy changes within days, allowing us to share these new practices and authoritative knowledge on-demand, 24 hours a day with our members."

"We are delighted to see how StreetSmarts® is demonstrating tangible value and becoming the chosen platform for several of Premier's initiatives, delivering timely and authoritative information at the lowest possible cost," said Dave Batt, CEO of StreetSmarts® Inc. "StreetSmarts' flexible, on demand collaborative platform is well suited for industries which need to quickly adapt to ever changing policy reforms, regulatory rules and compliance requirements."

StreetSmarts® serves a variety industries with its solution beyond the healthcare market by uniting company-wide knowledge with enterprise social networking components in a manner that helps companies improve organizational performance in areas such as sales effectiveness, channel enablement, training reinforcement and transforming intellectual capital into actionable knowledge through information management.

The Performance Improvement Portal (powered by StreetSmarts®) was also selected as the vital platform for the Hospital Quality Incentive Demonstration (HQID) project, the first of its kind value-based, or also known as pay-for-performance hospital purchasing project run by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Premier. Hospitals participating in the project raised their overall quality by an average of 17.2 percent over four years. These improvements saved the lives of an estimated 4,700 heart attack patients in four years, according to a Premier analysis of participant mortality rates, and CMS has awarded incentive payments totalling $36.5 million to participating hospitals.

StreetSmarts® and Premier's Performance Improvement Portal™ were also applied to the QUEST: High Performing Hospitals collaborative, a dynamic program that assists hospitals and healthcare systems in accelerating the improvement of American healthcare cost and delivery. To date, QUEST has been rolled out across more than 160 hospitals, benefitting more than 2.3 million patients annually.

Using StreetSmarts® as the engine for the Performance Improvement Portal™, Premier is applying and reusing this platform across multiple initiatives and even launched its first program internationally. NHS North West, England's largest strategic health authority has launched the country's first hospital based pay-for-performance initiative called "Advancing Quality."
