PrePass and E-ZPass Deliver Positive Environmental Impact

16th World Congress on Intelligent Transportation Systems Advised Annual Savings Exceed Emissions of 20,000 U.S. Households

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN--(Marketwire - October 5, 2009) - PrePass® weigh station technology and E-ZPass® electronic toll collection yield a cleaner and greener environment by reducing unnecessary idling and saving drivers time, fuel and money according to an address to the 16th World Congress on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). The World Congress attracted more than 4,000 transportation and policy experts from all parts of the world.

"PrePass electronically processed more than 55 million weigh station events in 2008, saving carriers more than 11 million gallons of fuel," according to Kevin Kruke, speaking on behalf of HELP Inc., the PrePass service provider. "Based on Environmental Protection Agency data, PrePass has reduced emissions at least 111 thousand metric tons, the equivalent of more than 6,000 U.S. households."

PrePass is a sophisticated system that enables qualified trucks to comply electronically with state safety, registration and weight requirements at highway speeds using a small in-cab transponder. By avoiding weigh station stops and idling in queues, trucks save time, reduce fuel consumption and contribute to a cleaner and safer transportation system.

PrePass Plus uses the same transponder to pay E-ZPass tolls electronically. Based on engineering estimates, E-ZPass reduced fuel consumption by almost 30 million gallons in 2007. That's the equivalent of nearly 265 thousand metric tons of related emissions or the greenhouse gas emissions of about 14 thousand U.S. households.

Beginning in November, PrePass will unveil an expanded suite of services that help truckers manage fleets, control costs and improve highway safety. To be among the first to preview new services, sign up at
