Presagis Welcomes the Adoption of CDB as an OGC Best Practice

Recognizing the importance of CDB for the simulation industry, the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC(R)) endorses the Common DataBase specification as an OGC Best Practice

MONTREAL, CANADA--(Marketwired - Aug. 19, 2015) - The OGC recently announced the official adoption of CDB as a Best Practice making use of several established data formats endorsed by leaders of the Aerospace, Defense and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) industries.

The concepts behind CDB originated in 2004 from discussions that led to an ongoing collaboration between US Government Agencies and simulation industry leaders, including Presagis (previously Terrex), CAE, and others.

By organizing GIS data as an agreed-upon and documented structured data repository, CDB promotes data reusability and interoperability amongst systems and vendors.

This also helps preserve the traceability and integrity of GIS data as an increasing number of mapping and terrain database developers abandon the project-based approach to become curators of large, ever-evolving pools of geo-localized data.

Unlike traditional 3D pre-triangulated mesh terrain databases, CDB offers on-demand Levels of Detail to allow the same correlated terrain data to be used by numerous simulation systems even though they may be operating at different altitudes and distances from the ground.

"Presagis has always prided itself for being at the forefront of the development and adoption of CDB and welcomes this important milestone on behalf of its hundreds of CDB-enabled users," said Stéphane Blondin, Presagis Head of Product Management and Marketing.

"This announcement comes at the perfect time as our customers start implementing 'one-world terrain' initiatives and as we bring new UAS and Radar simulation products to market. In our opinion, one of the most exciting capabilities of CDB lies in its ability to support detailed material classification via multiple layers of complex materials. This classification is critical as an increasing number of simulation applications need to go beyond the human visual spectrum and are calling for dynamic high-fidelity correlated sensor simulation," added Blondin.
