President of Merit Canada to Address Economic Club

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 27, 2013) - Merit Canada is the national voice of eight provincial open shop construction associations. President Terrance Oakey has been at the forefront of recent debates about the need to modernize Canada's labour laws to require unions to operate in a more open and transparent manner, while also advocating for better protection for taxpayer dollars through open tendering of public contracts. In addition, Merit Canada has been warning of the pending labour shortage in the skilled trades - which could top 300,000 by the end of the decade. Merit members are responsible for 70% of the industrial, commercial/institutional, and residential construction projects coast-to-coast-to-coast, making the organization an important barometer for the economy at large.
