International Auto Manufacturers Achieve Second Straight Year of Record Sales

Attention: Automotive Editor, Business/Financial Editor, Environment Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor, Transportation Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 4, 2007) - The President of the Association of the International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada (AIAMC) announced today that the thirteen member companies of the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada (AIAMC) had achieved a second straight year of record sales in 2006 with the members of the AIAMC securing sales of 733,669 light duty vehicles representing a 7% increase over the 685,880 units sold in 2005.

Overall light duty vehicle sales for 2006 were 1,614,700, an increase of 2.0% over the 1,583,291 cars and trucks sold in 2005, representing Canada's second best sales ever. AIAMC members' share of the light duty vehicle sales rose from 43.3% in 2005 to 45.4% in 2006.

"Rising gasoline prices through July assisted our members," noted David Adams, President of the AIAMC. Many of the AIAMC members sell vehicles with class-leading fuel efficiency. "It certainly helps, too, that the members had significant new entries in the sub-compact, compact and compact sport utility segments. These three segments collectively grew almost 7.1% compared to 2005 and represented over 42% of the market last year," added Adams. "Having vehicle offerings that appeal to Canadians' tastes and sensibilities enabled seven of our thirteen member companies to reach record sales in 2006, and I know each of our members is very respectful of the trust and confidence Canadian consumers have expressed in their purchasing decisions. There is a lot of competition out there."

The Association of International Automobile Manufacturers of Canada is the national industry association representing the interests of thirteen member companies engaged in the manufacture, importation, distribution and servicing of light duty vehicles in Canada. AIAMC membership includes BMW Canada Inc., Honda Canada Inc., Hyundai Auto Canada, Kia Canada Inc., Mazda Canada Inc., Mercedes-Benz Canada Inc., Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada, Inc., Nissan Canada Inc., Porsche Cars Canada Ltd., Subaru Canada, Inc., Suzuki Canada Inc., Toyota Canada Inc., and Volkswagen Canada Inc. The association was established in 1979 as a sub-group within the Canadian Importers Association and was incorporated as a separate legal entity in 1999.
