PriceSmart Announces April Sales

SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - May 6, 2016) - PriceSmart, Inc. (NASDAQ: PSMT) today announced that for the month of April 2016 net sales increased 9.2% to $226.6 million from $207.5 million in April a year earlier. For the eight months ended April 30, 2016, net sales increased 5.0% to $1,904.2 million from $1,813.7 million for the eight months ended April 30, 2015. There were 38 warehouse clubs in operation at the end of April 2016 and 36 warehouse clubs in operation at the end of April 2015.

For the four-week period ended April 24, 2016 comparable sales for the 36 warehouse clubs open at least 13 1/2 full months increased 0.7%, compared to the four-week period last year. For the thirty-four week period ended April 24, 2016 comparable warehouse sales decreased 0.4%, compared to the comparable thirty-four week period a year ago.

Comparable warehouse sales were negatively impacted by the devaluation of the Colombian peso from the year ago period. Six warehouse clubs in Colombia are in the calculation for comparable warehouse sales. Excluding those warehouse clubs, the four-week and thirty-four week comparable warehouse sales for the other 30 warehouse clubs open at least 13 1/2 full months increased 3.5% and increased 2.9%, respectively.
