Privateer Days Takes a Step Back in 1780

LIVERPOOL, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwired - June 8, 2015) - Department of Canadian Heritage

Gerald Keddy, Member of Parliament (South Shore-St. Margaret's), on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding of $40,600 for the 30^th edition of Privateer Days in Liverpool.

From June 26 to 28, Privateer Days 2015 will present a live encampment, battle re-enactments by the King's Orange Rangers, Old Burial Ground tours, an artisan workshop, a privateer play, as well as musical and dance performances. The Privateer Days Commission is counting on the participation of 500 volunteers who will plan and organize the three-day festival, a proud celebration of Liverpool's colourful privateer heritage.

Funding for this edition of Privateer Days is being provided through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program.

• Privateer Days is part of Nova Scotia's Signature Festival. The activities will promote the work of over 800 local artists and heritage performers.
• During the late 18^th century, Liverpool was considered by many to be the privateering capital of British North America.
• The end of the War of 1812 marked the end of privateering for Liverpool, although the stories and heritage are still celebrated today.
