Turning a Negative Into a Positive: Bullying

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Jan. 25, 2012) - In this well carefully crafted book of Love, Pain and Happy Endings, as this young girl battles the feelings that are festering inside of her, in the form of her "other self". As the title says, PROBLEMS BFF. A young girl who realizes the feelings she's harbored for her best friend and tries to deny them, all while trying to make sure another girl doesn't get him. This storyteller's words show us how you can turn a negative situation into a positive.

Author Elizabeth Ababio grew up with a loving family. She taps that experience in the first of a planned series of books which speculate on Problems; the title of her book written from the perspective of a 17 year old girl named Samantha (a.k.a. Sam).

Elizabeth came up with the plot idea on her own. "Family experiences are universal," she said. "You just put people together in any kind of semi-permanent way and all kinds of things happen. I could have been cruel right back to the bullies who taunted me, or could have cowered. Instead, I got creative and penned my feelings in the hopes that others would take my message of how anyone can overcome bullying."

The bullying started in Grade 4, but she never realized it. "Either I ignored it or I just didn't notice. People were laughing whenever I walked in the room. I felt so tormented that I'd fake illness to avoid going to school." But Elizabeth was able to talk to her mom and a counselor at school. "I've always looked to my mom for support - as well as teachers that I trust. Now whenever I sense I'm being bullied, I stand up for myself and it stops immediately."

The titled Problems: BFF, "Just came from a bunch of stories that my mind put together. The cover of two best friends linking arms was also created by me."

Elizabeth has taken drama in school, and will soon be studying creative writing.

So far, 10 books have been sold, with $2 from each sale benefitting B.C. Children's Hospital. Elizabeth says, "I thought if I want to donate to any charity, I'd rather donate to the children of the future."
