Professional Inventors Alliance Applauds Union Stand

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - March 6, 2008) - The Professional Inventors Alliance ( wishes to thank the AFL-CIO and Change to Win labor federations for standing with the inventor community in opposition to the so called Patent Reform Act of 2007. We recognize that maintaining a strong patent system is one of the best anchors for the good jobs that enable U.S. citizens to maintain their standard of living and avoid precipitous drop to the level of developing countries.

PIAUSA member John B. Fenn, Ph.D., inventor and 2002 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, applauded America's unions saying for taking a stand against patent reform, "I was very gratified to learn that America's labor unions have joined with American inventors in opposing so called patent reform."

A few large transnational corporations have a vision of patent "reform" which would create a system that would allow them to take Americans' inventions along with the jobs and tax base those inventions produce to low wage countries for their global search for profits.

Many of the companies promoting self serving and destructive changes to our nation's patent laws are also defenders of other damaging policies such as "free" trade -- irresponsible trade practices which victimize both American workers as well as people in developing countries. PIAUSA would like to see free trade replaced with responsible and equitable trade.

The Professional Inventors Alliance USA was created in 1990 to protect American invention and encourage innovation. American inventors saw a need to track congressional legislation and federal policy that impacts independent inventors, small and medium-sized businesses and colleges and universities. The Alliance is the premiere organization in the nation, providing independent inventors a united voice in order to improve public policy.

Since its inception, the Alliance has grown into one of the most vocal advocates for America's patent system.

Examples of areas of our expertise include David Vs. Goliath patent litigation, patent reform, and we have a unique view of patent pirating companies who are associated with the "Coalition for Patent fairness" & PIRACY.
