Professionnel emerite Award: Gisele Desrochers Honoured by the Ordre des Conseillers en ressources humaines et relations industrielles agrees du Quebec

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 6, 2005) - National Bank wishes to congratulate Gisele Desrochers, Senior Vice-President - Human Resources and Operations, on being awarded the title of Professionnel emerite (Professional Emeritus) by the Ordre des Conseillers en ressources humaines et relations industrielles agrees du Quebec (ORHRI) at its annual conference on October 3 and 4, 2005.

The title of Professionnel emerite is a prestigious, honorary designation conferred on a member of the Ordre who, through his or her achievements in human resource management and industrial relations, has contributed to the advancement of the profession and become a role model for his or her peers.

As Senior Vice-President - Human Resources and Operations, Ms. Desrochers is responsible for developing human resource policies and practices to ensure that the Bank has the pool of talent it needs to carry out its business strategy. She is also responsible for optimizing the Bank's operational processes and supervising the support units of several business lines, including the assistance centres, cash management and document processing services, the premises and material resources department and the Bank's call centres.

Since her arrival in Human Resources in 1994, she and her team have implemented a wide range of programs designed to engage the Bank's internal resources and align them with its business strategy. In 2004, the Toronto-based Women's Executive Network named Ms. Desrochers one of the 100 most powerful women in Canada.
