Programming of NAND Flash Devices Supporting Standard and Custom Bad Block Schemes

Power of Boundary-Scan Extended to Broad Class of Memories

STEVENSVILLE, MD -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 25, 2005 -- JTAG Technologies, top provider world-wide of IEEE 1149.x boundary-scan products, has further broadened its in-system programming (ISP) support to include NAND-based flash memories. As a result, designers and test engineers using the popular NAND devices will benefit from being able to run a larger variety of important printed circuit board-level applications, all based on the same standard hardware and software toolset and boundary-scan infrastructure.

NAND-based flash is a low-cost high-capacity memory technology commonly used in large data applications such as digital cameras, 3G cell phones, PDAs, etc. In addition to using this data storage capability, manufacturers have found it beneficial in many cases to program code into NAND flash devices. Now, with the new product from JTAG Technologies, NAND programming can be performed in-system, after board assembly, by the same set of boundary-scan tools currently used for rapid, precise PCB testing and ISP of many other device types.

The applications are realized by use of JTAG Technologies' standard FDS software, coupled with the Block-based Flash Media option (BFM). Programming is executed on standard JTAG Technologies hardware, and can be implemented in a stand-alone boundary-scan station or integrated within practically any other type of in-circuit, flying probe, or functional test system.

The product supports nearly all NAND flash types without the need for hardware adapters. This flexibility of the JTAG Technologies NAND tool provides several major advantages for users, avoiding the need for specific hardware modules, simplifying integration within other test fixtures and reducing operational costs significantly. Standard and specific bad-block management schemes are supported, and support for new devices and bad-block methods is available free-of-charge for users.

The new NAND programming capabilities are available with the FDS software packages. The FDS package prices start at $ 3,750 and the BMF option is priced at $ 1,500.
