Progress DataDirect Recognized for Excellence With 2009 Readers' Choice Award From Visual Studio Magazine

Progress® DataDirect Connect® for ADO.NET Receives Readers' Choice Merit Award in the Product Category: Data, Network and Web Connectivity

BEDFORD, MA--(Marketwire - August 4, 2009) - Progress DataDirect, the data infrastructure division of Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS) and provider of premium, vendor-independent data access and integration technologies for any data source, platform or operating environment, today announced that its Progress® DataDirect Connect® for ADO.NET data providers have been honored with a Readers' Choice Merit Award in the product category of Data, Network and Web Connectivity from Visual Studio Magazine. The 2009 winners, which will appear in the August issue, are chosen by Visual Studio Magazine's readers and honor excellent software in 23 development categories.

"When it comes to judging the value and capability of developer tools, you won't find a savvier audience than Visual Studio Magazine readers," said Michael Desmond, Visual Studio Magazine editor-in-chief and editorial director of the developer media group at 1105 Media. "These are committed developers -- demanding professionals who work with code every day and have a deep appreciation for the tools they rely on."

Visual Studio Magazine presented awards in three categories:

-- Readers' Choice Awards, given to products that received the most
readers' votes in one of 23 total categories
-- Readers' Choice Merit Awards, given to products receiving a high
number of votes that also show real value to Visual Studio Magazine readers
-- Editors' Choice Awards, given to the handful of products that earned
strong praise from our select panel of dev experts and were singled out as
among the very best products overall by Visual Studio Magazine readers.

DataDirect Connect for ADO.NET has raised the bar for superior performance, security and interoperability. Corporate IT departments at the Fortune 100 and leading ISVs use the DataDirect data provider to securely and efficiently write and deploy .NET enterprise applications that connect to multiple databases including Oracle, DB2, Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase. As the only suite of ADO.NET data providers with 100 percent managed-code architecture, DataDirect Connect for ADO.NET eliminates the need for database client libraries, providing developers the most versatile deployment options available in both application and client-server environments.

The latest release of the product includes new provider features for each major database, new performance tuning options and introduces first-of-its-kind bulk load functionality -- the most flexible, common API-based implementation of bulk-load functionality for the .NET platform that provides consistent semantics across all supported databases. With Microsoft's decision to deprecate System.Data.OracleClient, developers needing to connect .NET applications to Oracle databases can turn to Progress DataDirect for full support. The DataDirect Connect for ADO.NET Entity Framework provider for Oracle beta is available now with general product availability scheduled for late August.

"This isn't a popularity contest," Desmond continued. "A product that earns a Visual Studio Magazine Readers' Choice Award has earned the respect and loyalty, over time, of Visual Studio Magazine readers, some of the most demanding users on the planet. I commend all the Readers' Choice Award winners. Visual Studio Magazine readers have put your product on top."
