Progressive Waste Solutions Ltd. Honored With SWANA 2012 Gold Excellence Awards for Seneca Meadows and Timber Ridge Landfills

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 19, 2012) - Progressive Waste Solutions Ltd. (TSX:BIN)(NYSE:BIN) is pleased to announce that SWANA (Solid Waste Association of North America) has awarded its Gold Excellence Awards for 2012 to Seneca Meadows Landfill in New York for Landfill Management and Timber Ridge Landfill in Missouri for Landfill Gas Control.

SWANA's Excellence Awards Program recognizes outstanding solid waste programs and facilities that advance the practice of environmentally and economically sound solid waste management through their commitment to utilizing effective technologies and processes in system design and operations, advancing worker and community health and safety, and implementing successful public education and outreach programs. Programs also must demonstrate that they are fiscally and environmentally responsible through their compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations.

Seneca Meadows Landfill is located in Seneca Falls, New York, and is one of the primary disposal facilities for businesses and communities throughout the State. Seneca Meadows has been previously awarded the "Seneca County Business of the Year" and received the Rochester Business Journal Environmental Leadership Award in 2009. The Montezuma Audubon Center recently honored Seneca Meadows with the Donald T. Colvin Conservation Award for its outstanding service and continuing vigilance in the preservation and enhancement of the environment. The facility has also received a U.S. Congressional Proclamation for its commitment to preserve and protect the environment.

Timber Ridge Landfill is located in Richwoods, Missouri, and is the primary disposal facility for businesses and communities throughout Jefferson, Washington, and Franklin Counties. Timber Ridge Landfill has recently been presented with the "Outstanding Achievement in Environmental Leadership" award by the Missouri Waste Coalition (MWCC) and the "Outstanding Achievement Award" in the 2011 International Achievement Awards (IAA)/Geosynthetics presented by the Industrial Fabrics Association International. Through the use of the innovative Agru/Closure Turf system, Timber Ridge has been able to cost effectively contain all odors and reduce labor and maintenance at the landfill site.

"The recipients of the 2012 SWANA Excellence Awards represent the most innovative, professional solid waste management operations in North America," said Joseph Quarin, Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Progressive Waste Solutions. "It is a significant achievement for our Seneca Meadows and Timber Ridge landfill sites to be recognized as Gold winners in their categories. We are very proud of their outstanding accomplishments and commitment to environmental stewardship, which reflects our company's focus on responsible sustainability practices."

The awards and trophies will be presented to all recipients of the Excellence Awards at SWANA's annual national conference, WASTECON, in Washington D.C. during the Awards Breakfast on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Centre.
