LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Mar 20, 2015) - Project Giving Kids, a nonprofit that connects kids to causes, today announced the opening of its Los Angeles operation. Launched in Boston in late-2013, Project Giving Kids now enjoys a bi-coastal presence and is poised to expand to other major metro areas in the months ahead.
Project Giving Kids is the passion project of founder Molly Yuska, who established the organization after years in the nonprofit sector and experiencing first-hand the challenge of finding age-appropriate service opportunities for her own children.
"As a parent, I believe deeply in the value of exposing our kids to service opportunities at a very early age. But that's easier said than done, as many volunteer opportunities simply aren't appropriate for children, and those that are, are hard to find," said Molly Yuska, founder of Project Giving Kids. "Project Giving Kids connects kids with causes using our intuitive website tailored specifically for kids. Kids can drive the whole process -- by learning about causes they relate to and choosing fun, rewarding ways to help support those causes."
Project Giving Kids built its website with kids in mind -- visitors to www.projectgivingkids.org are greeted with a simple list of seven nonprofit categories: Save the Planet, Aid the Elderly, Aid the Animals, Comfort the Sick, Help Fight Hunger, Begin with Basics and Help Other Kids. Selecting any of these categories reveals a list of locally based, age-appropriate volunteer opportunities. Kids conduct their own research, select the nonprofits and projects that interest them the most, and follow step-by-step instructions to pursue volunteer opportunities that align perfectly with their interests. While the primary intent of Project Giving Kids is to promote hands-on involvement in Boston and now Los Angeles, many of the nonprofits also offer home-based service opportunities that make it easy for kids from virtually anywhere to get involved and make an impact.
Project Giving Kids opens its LA-based operation with the support of 10 charter members of the local nonprofit community. These organizations include Access Books, Big Sunday, Grades of Green, Heal the Bay, Karma Rescue, Mending Kids, Milk + Bookies, North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry, San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission, and TreePeople. These organizations are the foundation of what will grow into an extensive network of nonprofits in the greater Los Angeles area.
Tomorrow, Project Giving Kids will celebrate its Los Angeles opening with a pair of exciting events to engage the local community and to set Project Giving Kids LA into motion:
