ProMedica Health System Announces New Heart and Vascular Institutes

TOLEDO, OH--(Marketwire - February 8, 2010) - ProMedica Health System (PHS) has joined forces with leading heart and vascular experts to deliver world-class health care to patients in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. The new ProMedica Heart and Vascular Institutes (PHVI) are a collaboration of physicians, technology and specialty services. The alignment of heart and vascular specialties will significantly enhance the quality of patient care by establishing a collaborative and system-wide treatment approach. PHVI has the largest alliance of specialists in northwest Ohio, including from the nationally renowned Jobst Vascular Center, ProMedica Physician Group, Toledo Clinic and area independent practices.

Through PHVI, patients have access to advanced diagnostic technology, cutting-edge treatments and surgical techniques, and national clinical research trials. All services are provided at PHS facilities, which include the following eight hospitals: Bay Park Community Hospital in Oregon, Ohio; Bixby Medical Center in Adrian, Mich.; Defiance Regional Medical Center in Defiance, Ohio; Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio; Fostoria Community Hospital in Fostoria, Ohio; Herrick Medical Center in Tecumseh, Mich.; and The Toledo Hospital and Toledo Children's Hospital in Toledo, Ohio.

PHVI incorporate a broad range of programs and services, with a focus on prevention, collaboration, technology and support. Those most notable are as follows:

    -- Jobst Vascular Center (JVC), a nationally renowned center of
       excellence on the campus of The Toledo Hospital (TTH). Under the
       leadership of Anthony Comerota, MD, the center's team of nationally
       and internationally recognized, board-certified vascular surgeons
       lead in the practice and development of advanced surgical
       techniques, including arterial bypass surgery for limb salvage and
       carotid surgery for stroke prevention. In addition to providing
       care for all forms of vascular disease, the center is an
       educational and research institution. JVC is dedicated to the
       advancement of vascular treatment and innovative techniques. JVC
       physicians train vascular surgeons for positions in the U.S.

    -- With more than 20,000 vascular examinations performed annually, JVC
       operates one of the busiest vascular labs in the nation. Jobst
       Vascular Laboratory provides a full range of services by certified
       vascular technologists. Most examinations use Doppler ultrasound
       technology to diagnose vascular disease in arteries and/or veins
       throughout the body.

    -- At TTH, patients have access to state-of-the-art services and
       equipment for diagnosing and treating cardiovascular diseases and
       disorders. It has the largest network of board-certified
       cardiothoracic surgeons and heart specialists in northwest Ohio,
       who are performing the most advanced surgical and catheterization
       techniques, such as minimally-invasive heart valve surgery,
       vascular robotic surgery and complex ablations. In 2009, more than
       60,000 cardiac tests and procedures were performed at TTH, as well
       as over 650 heart surgeries.

    -- TTH Aortic Center, an integrated program which incorporates the
       disciplines of cardiovascular surgery, vascular surgery and

       range of services to help patients improve their cardiovascular
       health and develop healthy behaviors. A team of experienced

       individualized rehabilitation program, following a cardiac event
       or when a need develops to reduce risk factors.
