Prominent Vehicle Collections to Grab Attention at 3rd Annual Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction

LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwire - September 16, 2010) - -

  • Barrett-Jackson will offer bidders a diverse docket of vehicles from the early 20th century to today
  • Notable collections from Danny Gans, Carroll Shelby and Rudy Lechtenberger to cross the block
  • SPEED will broadcast 21.5 hours of auction action over three days

A large docket of eclectic vehicle collections will be sold during the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company's 3rd Annual Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction on Thursday, Sept. 23, through Saturday, Sept. 25, at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Barrett-Jackson will auction hundreds of dynamic vehicles at No Reserve with 21.5 hours of live SPEED coverage.

"The Barrett-Jackson consignment team prides itself on offering a broad assortment of collector vehicles," stated Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. "From Carroll Shelby's muscle-powered ponies and Rudy Lechtenberger's John Deere tractors and '50s era classics, to stage coaches from Dutch Joe Ranch and Danny Gans' one-of-a-kind collection, guests will see several key vehicles from notable collectors in our Las Vegas line-up."

Carroll Shelby Crew
Carroll Shelby's name is synonymous with performance, and bidders will have the opportunity to take home one of three legendary Shelbys during the Las Vegas auction. Carroll Shelby has been manufacturing automotive dream cars for more than 50 years. A trio of vehicles from the factory collection that are up for sale include a 2009 Ford Shelby Mustang NFS Terlingua coupe (Lot #674.2), a 2008 Ford Shelby GT Mustang coupe (Lot #674.4) and a 2006 Ford Shelby GT-H coupe (Lot #674.3).

The 2009 Shelby Terlingua Racing Team Mustang was originally designed for the Electronic Arts (EA) game "Need for Speed -- Undercover." The EA and Shelby teams began with a V6 Ford Mustang coupe then added 20" custom rims, a roll bar, carbon fiber seats, Hurst short-throw shifter, Ford Racing exhaust, a new set of dash gauges, stronger suspension, an aerodynamic body kit and a supercharger that nearly doubled its output. Signed by Carroll Shelby with the one-off blacked out paint scheme, it will be the only NFS Shelby Terlingua in the world, as noted in the official Shelby Registry.

Among the Shelbys being sold, the 2008 Shelby GT Mustang has not only served as a development car, but 08SGT0085 was the official press vehicle that won a magazine competition. The car was Shelby's entry into Motor Trend's "Pony Expressed" comparison test for its April 2008 issue. The Shelby trounced cars by Roush and Saleen in the test.

The 2006 Shelby GT-H was designed to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Hertz rental car program. A total of 517 coupes, all of which had automatic transmissions except for four Hertz executive cars made with manuals, were built for rental through select U.S. Hertz locations. The car to be sold in Las Vegas is number 371 with a Shelby serial number of 06H371.

Collection from "The Man of Many Voices"
A collection from the renowned Vegas headliner Danny Gans will also be a featured favorite. Barrett-Jackson will sell a group of Gans' personal vehicles, including Ford Hot Rods, 1950s Chevrolets, muscle cars and modern performance vehicles. They will be sold during the SPEED television broadcast as a tribute to the memory of the entertainment icon.

"Danny was a renaissance man blessed with many talents," explained Davis. "His career, which spanned professional sports, music, comedy and theater, endeared him to fans of all ages and backgrounds worldwide. We're honored that his family would ask Barrett-Jackson to share his love of car collecting with the world. His amazing collection will be the cornerstone of our event in the City of Lights, which he loved as much as performing for fans."

Danny Gans' collection features:

  • 1932 Ford 3-window custom coupe (Lot #634.2)
  • 1934 Ford 3-window custom coupe (Lot #634)
  • 1955 Chevrolet Cameo custom pickup (Lot #634.1)
  • 1955 Chevrolet 210 custom two door sedan (Lot #635)
  • 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Yenko re-creation (Lot #633.2)
  • 1970 Plymouth Barracuda two door coupe (Lot #633.1)
  • 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am coupe (Lot #633)
  • 2003 Chevrolet Corvette custom coupe (Lot #635.2)
  • 2000 Dodge Viper GTS coupe (Lot #635.1)
  • 2008 Harley-Davidson Street Glide FLHX 105th Anniversary Edition (Lot #636)

"Nothing Runs Like a Deere"
Nine John Deere tractors from the estate of Rudy Lechtenberger will make their auction block debut in Las Vegas. The collection represents nearly 50 years of passion for cars, trucks and tractors. This is the first time in Barrett-Jackson history that such a large group of John Deeres will be sold.

"John Deere is as American as county fairs, country roads and sitting on the back porch sipping iced tea," added Davis. "Generations of farmers used this equipment and passed it on to their children. Any collector would be fortunate to have a piece of our country's history in their collection."

All equipped with two cylinders, the tractors range from Model As to Hs, with one from the 520 series.

The Model D, which was manufactured from 1923 to 1953, is the longest running production of any two cylinder John Deere tractor in history. Nearly 30 years of updates did not alter the basic design of the Model D. Barrett-Jackson will sell a 1941 John Deere Model D (Lot #315.2) with a three-speed 501 cid engine in its legendary green hue.

The John Deere docket also includes:

A Flashback to the Wild West
Barrett-Jackson will return some of the romance of the Old West to Las Vegas when they sell a collection of 10 horse drawn vehicles this year. The horse drawn vehicles are part of the extensive collection owned by the Dutch Joe Ranch (DJR) of Arizona.

"We've sold an amazing variety of eclectic vehicles, such as the Russian space capsule recovery boat, Robosaurus, fire trucks, promotional movie cars and even a couple of stage coaches," adds Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. "We now add to that list this amazing collection of horse drawn vehicles."

A wagon that will capture the attention of young and old alike is an original 1915 Cretor Model C Popcorn wagon (Lot #356.3). Clad in red and white, the horse drawn vehicle is a fully operational popcorn maker that uses an original steam system. The wagon comes with owner history from original purchase from the factory in 1916, plus an extensive collection of pictures, articles and other documents related to the vehicle.

Other horse drawn vehicles include:

  • Full-sized 1880 style replica stage coach (Lot #356.1)
  • Three-quarter size pony stage coach replica (Lot #356.2)
  • Two-person Phaeton one horse buggy (Lot #698)
  • Three seat Limousine (Lot #697)
  • Robert two seat "Classic Carriage" (Lot #697.1)
  • Robert 12 Passenger Wagonette (Lot #697.2)
  • Studebaker two-board wagon (Lot #7.2)
  • Covered wagon circa 1880 - 1900 (Lot #7)
  • Covered wagon circa 1880 - 1900 (Lot #7.1)

"The 3rd annual Las Vegas auction will be very diverse this year," commented Jackson. "Not only do we have a great docket of vehicles from individual owners, we also have multiple groups of vehicle collections. This is a chance to select a fantastic machine from a very wide selection."
