Government of Canada supports Les FrancoFolies de Montreal


MONTRÉAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - June 12, 2014) - Canadian Heritage and Canada Economic Development

The Honourable Shelley Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today joined the Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, in announcing funding for Les FrancoFolies de Montréal.

Funding includes $350,000 ($175,000 for 2014 and $175,000 for 2015) from Canadian Heritage under the Canada Arts Presentation Fund to enable more than 850,000 festival-goers to discover the talent of some 1,000 French-speaking artists from around the world.

Funding provided by Canada Economic Development for 2013 and 2014 amounts to $602,000, granted through the Quebec Community Development Program to help promote and market the the Festival to foreign markets.

  • Through Canada Music Fund's Collective Initiatives Component, Musicaction will provide funding support of some $100,000 to Montréal's FrancoFolies in 2014-15.
  • The 26th FrancoFolies de Montréal will take place in the Quartier des spectacles, June 12-22.
  • Its varied programming will include nearly 70 indoor shows and 180 free outdoor concerts.
  • More than 1,000 artists from 10 countries and from various regions of Quebec and the rest of Canada will offer shows featuring French-language songs and world music, exploring various musical genres (rock, pop, world beat, hip hop, electronic, etc.).
