Protexis Bolsters Management Team with New Chief Technology Officer

VANCOUVER, B.C.--(CCNMatthews - Mar 22, 2006) -

Protexis Inc., provider of e-commerce and digital rights management (DRM) hosted services for software publishers, has welcomed Ken Brown to the executive team as its new chief technology officer and vice president, engineering. Brown has 20 years experience in the technology industry, with eight years spent in the DRM, electronic software distribution (ESD) and e-commerce spaces. Most recently he has been working with Portland, Oregon, area startups as an advisor and investor.

"I'm pleased to have Ken Brown join our team as CTO and VP, engineering. Ken will lead our engineering team and be responsible for the effective execution of the Protexis technology agenda," said Karl Hirsch, president and CEO of Protexis.

Brown was one of the original authors and architects of the first digital packaging system for secure content delivery called ZipLock from Portland Software. Portland Software later merged with Preview Software to become Preview Systems, a pioneer in ESD, where Brown later led the engineering team and was directly involved with the integration of Preview's technology at large resellers and distributors.

Brown also co-founded Carrier Services Inc. (since renamed to Vesta, Inc) and assumed the CTO role. He was instrumental in designing the architecture to support the rapid growth of the company in prepaid telecommunications, credit card processing and fraud controls.

"I'm very excited to be working with the team at Protexis and to be in a position to fully leverage our position in the marketplace through our technology offering," said Brown.

Brown holds a Bachelor of Applied Mathematics from the University of California Berkeley.
