Protomed and Socket Mobile Partner to Provide Long-Term Care Facilities With Electronic Medication Administration Records on the Apple® iPad®

Strategic Alliance Enables Long-Term Care Facilities to Improve Patient Outcomes, Reduce Drug Waste and Comply With Medication Management Regulations

NEWARK, CA--(Marketwire - Mar 5, 2012) - Socket Mobile, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCKT), an innovative provider of mobile productivity solutions, today announced a partnership with Protomed, a developer of pharmaceutical packaging and drug management systems. The collaboration combines the Socket Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) 7Xi barcode scanner with Protomed's cloud-based medication administration application for the Apple iPad, known as BeMAR. The combined solution enables long-term care facilities to increase medication compliance, prevent drug waste, and better conform to medication administration regulations.

The CHS 7Xi is a high-performance 2D barcode scanner certified by Apple for the iPad and other iOS devices. Using the CHS 7Xi and iPad at the point of care, nurses or other care providers can quickly verify patients' medicines, which have been packaged with Protomed's Biodose dosage monitoring system. Drug administration is automatically recorded with a timestamp for government audits. Clinical staff can also use the solution to check in drug inventory received from the pharmacy, saving significant amounts of time. Protomed is actively promoting the solution to its Biodose customers, which include hundreds of nursing homes in Europe and North America, serving more than 35,000 patients each year.

"We view our partnership with Socket Mobile as a long-term relationship which will enable us to continue our development of life-saving innovations in healthcare," said Norman Niven, Managing Director of Protomed. "We believe this initial offering has great potential, and there are many more products for the healthcare market that Protomed and Socket Mobile can develop together."

"Our partnership with Protomed is a great example of Socket Mobile's ongoing initiative with the Apple iOS developer community. The CHS 7Xi and associated SDK made it easy for ProtoMed to deliver a powerful and effective barcode scanning driven solution for healthcare," said Mike Gifford, executive vice president of Socket Mobile. "As more Apple developers come to appreciate the portability, reliability and ease of use of our barcode scanners, we expect to see the CHS integrated into a wide variety of innovative enterprise applications."
