A Provincial First: Five Municipalities Take a Common Front in Opposition to the Implantation of Industrial Windmills in Residential Areas and on Prime Agricultural Lands of Quebec

SAINT-PAUL-DE-L'ILE-AUX-NOIX, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 1, 2011) - The new coalition of the Montérégie implicates the municipalities of Saint-Paul-de-l'Île-aux-Noix, Saint-Blaise-sur-Richelieu, Lacolle, Saint-Cyprien-de-Napierville and Saint-Jacques-le-Mineur.

The five mayors unanimously deplore the lack of impartial information that has been accessible to date to taxpayers.

The instigator of this opposition movement, Mr. Gérard Dutil, mayor of Saint-Paul-de-l'Île-aux-Noix, denotes: "As elected municipal figures, we must defend the rights or our citizens. We realize that as people are informed of the real impacts and consequences related to the industrial implantation of windmills, the more they are against this invasion in the midst of our best agricultural lands of Québec."

The mayor of Saint-Jacques-le-Mineur, Mrs. Lise Trottier, adds: "Our position is very clear. Green energy: YES!... But industrial windmills in the very middle of Quebec's food pantry and in residential areas: NO!".

The mayor of Lacolle, Mr. Yves Duteau, for his part reminds us of the words of Vice-Prime Minister, Mrs. Nathalie Normandeau that we can make windmill energy in Québec, but not at any cost and it was out of the question to impose such a project in a community that would be largely divided.

The mayor of Saint-Cyprien-de-Napierville, Mr. André Tremblay, states: "The situation is more tense in our area since Hydro-Québec retained, without our consent, a project with Khanawake Sustainable Energies. We had refused TCI project previously, we certainly don't want this project!"

The mayor of Saint-Blaise-sur-Richelieu, Mr. Jacques Desmarais, insists "It is clear that there is no general acceptability. The Montérégie windmill project is dividing the population."

The Coalition is prepared in the very near future to summon the population to a public hearing in order to inform them of pertinent information.
