PRSA-San Francisco and Mechanics Bank Team Up to Offer Free Public Relations Workshop for Nonprofit Organizations

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - October 14, 2010) -  The San Francisco Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA-SF) and Mechanics Bank have teamed up to offer a free public relations workshop for the public relations and marketing staffs of the Bay Area's nonprofit organizations. The November 10th breakfast event, underwritten by Mechanics Bank and led by veteran PRSA-SF members, will provide hands-on sessions on crisis communications, communications planning and implementation, traditional and new media relations, use of spokespersons, and leveraging corporate sponsorships.

"Building Your Nonprofit PR Toolkit: Vital Ingredients to Success" also features a keynote address by Jennifer Byrd, national public relations director for The Salvation Army, one of the nation's oldest and most respected nonprofit organizations.

"This prolonged economic downturn has taken an enormous toll on nonprofits -- perhaps even more so than for-profit businesses -- because they often serve vulnerable populations that are hardest hit in a downturn," said Krysta Pellegrino, president, PRSA-SF. "We decided to conduct this program because we believe that effective public relations can be a vital resource for an organization's survival, and we want to help the many nonprofits in our community. We're delighted that Mechanics Bank has stepped forward to make this program possible, with some of the brightest and most experienced PR professionals in our chapter donating their time and expertise."

"For 105 years, Mechanics Bank has been investing deposits and profits in the communities it serves," said Clayton Lloyd, regional vice president in the Retail Group at Mechanics Bank. "We've seen firsthand how vital the role of nonprofits is in sustaining and improving the quality of life here in Northern California -- an objective that, as a community bank, we share. This workshop fits perfectly with our goal to provide the support and resources that make it possible for them to achieve their missions."

The PRSA-SF/Mechanics Bank nonprofit PR workshop takes place 8 to 10:30 a.m. November 10th at the Marriott Oakland City Center at 1001 Broadway. Space is limited and is assigned on a first come, first served basis. Only nonprofit employees are eligible.
