CHICAGO--(CCNMatthews - Jan 26, 2006) -

Prudential Capital Group, an investment business of Prudential Financial, Inc. (NYSE:PRU), announced today that it originated $6.6 billion in private debt investments in 2005. The investments were primarily fixed-rate, senior and subordinated debt and equity in 161 companies worldwide. North American investments accounted for $5.5 billion and the remaining total of $1.1 billion was invested in companies outside of North America. By comparison, 2004 originations were $5.2 billion -- $4.2 billion in North America and nearly $1 billion outside of North America.

Last year was one of the most active years enjoyed by Prudential Capital Group, which has seen a steady increase in transactions for several years amid a flat private placement market. "We have benefited, in part, from a robust M&A market and a strong U.S. economy that has fueled the need for capital," said Allen Weaver, senior managing director and head of Prudential Capital Group. "Our focus on middle-market companies, our global regional office network, and broad product line that spans the risk spectrum have allowed us to take advantage of these positive market factors."
