PSEPC: Minister Day Applauds RCMP in Seizure of Child Pornography in Edmundston, New Brunswick

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 6, 2006) - Today, the Honourable Stockwell Day released the following statement in response to news that New Brunswick law enforcement agencies have seized a significant collection of child pornography in Edmundston. The joint investigation involving the Edmundston City Police Force and the RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit was initiated in August 2006 as the result of information received from the Toronto Metro Police Service's Child Sex Crime Unit.

"I would like to take this opportunity to commend the Toronto Metro Police Service's Child Sex Crime Unit, the RCMP Internet Child Exploitation Unit and the Edmundston Police Force for their fine work in what may be the largest seizure of child pornography ever in the Province of New Brunswick," said Minister Day.

It is through the dedication and tireless efforts of our law enforcement community that this illegal material has been taken out of circulation. Canada's New Government continues to take action to protect our children and to help ensure that Canadian communities are safe and secure."
