Psion PLC Major Contract Win

MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 28, 2005) - Psion PLC, (LSE:PON), the mobile computing solutions company, today announces that it has signed a major contract with the French national railway operator, SNCF, for the supply of its handheld computers.

SNCF has awarded Psion Teklogix a contract valued at US $15 million for the supply of 11,550 WORKABOUT PRO handheld devices, along with a multi-year maintenance agreement. The WORKABOUT PRO units will be rolled out during 2006 and 2007 as part of SNCF's 'Accelio project'. This provides controllers on SNCF trains with the facility to sell tickets, validate tickets and season passes and answer customers' timetable queries.

The WORKABOUT PRO configuration includes: a Symagery 2D Imager to read an encrypted barcode on the passenger's ticket; an RFID reader to read RFID cards (monthly passes); radio card for data synchronization when the train enters the main stations; and a Bluetooth connection to a portable printer.

After 4 weeks of live testing with 120 controllers and several products, SNCF has agreed this contract with Psion Teklogix. SNCF has selected the WORKABOUT PRO mobile computer for its features in terms of ergonomics, battery life and data capture performance for both barcode and RFID.

Alistair Crawford, Chief Executive of Psion, said: "This is the largest single order ever won by Psion Teklogix. It reflects the growing success of the WORKABOUT PRO and also the benefit of our recent Symagery acquisition. Psion Teklogix continues to have orders, revenue and profits well ahead of last year. As organisations continue to implement mobile solutions, corporate demand for our mobile enterprise productivity solutions is set to grow strongly."
