Public Hearings on the Proposed Federal Electoral Map: Deadline for Notice of Representation is June 20

ST. JOHN'S, NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR--(Marketwire - June 12, 2012) - The Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Newfoundland and Labrador has proposed a new federal electoral map for consideration at public hearings this summer.

Canada's electoral districts are reviewed every 10 years by independent commissions in each province to account for shifts and growth in the population. These reviews consider population numbers captured in the federal census as well as other important factors, such as communities of interest or identity, and historical and geographic factors.

Your commission is proposing changes to the size, shape or name of five of Newfoundland and Labrador's seven electoral districts, with St. John's South-Mount Pearl and Labrador remaining unchanged.
