Public Safety Minister Toews Commends Nova Scotia RCMP on Contraband Seizure

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 10, 2011) - Today, the Honourable Vic Toews, Canada's Minister of Public Safety, made the following statement commending Nova Scotia RCMP (H Division) on the seizure of 700,000 contraband cigarettes, marijuana, cash and six vehicles.

"The proceeds of the sale of illegal contraband harms not only the economy, but also finances organized crime, jeopardizing the safety of our communities," said the Minister. "This seizure demonstrates the vigilance and dedication of the RCMP in its efforts to eliminate the sale of contraband products and keep our streets safe."

The seven-month long investigation, which led to the arrest of six individuals, involved both the RCMP and Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations.
