Public Safety Minister Toews Commends Re-Launch of Youth Crime Prevention Website

Award winning online resource helps at-risk youth make smart choices

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 12, 2010) - The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, made the following statement today in response to the re-launch of the RCMP's enhanced award-winning youth crime prevention website,

"This government is committed to preventing crime and building stronger communities. I commend the RCMP for continuing this valuable initiative to help prevent at-risk youth from engaging in criminal activities," said Minister Toews. "This website profiles positive youth-led initiatives across Canada and raises awareness on topics such as impaired driving, dating violence, drugs, and gangs. Besides being a valuable tool for youth, it is also offers valuable advice for parents, educators and police officers, on how best to support youth and the issues they face."

Crime prevention is an important component of the Government of Canada's comprehensive approach to tackling crime. Investments in projects targeting at-risk youth including the National Crime Prevention Centre and youth component of the National Anti-Drug Strategy demonstrate the Government's ongoing commitment to making our communities safe.
