Public Service Advisory: Grenade Training at Connaught Ranges 10 July

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 6, 2007) - Connaught Ranges and Primary Training Centre (CRPTC) near Shirley's Bay in Kanata will be firing roughly three hundred grenades on 10 July, 2007. This is expected to create noise that will be heard in Kanata and also across the river in Aylmer. Firing will only take place in daylight hours, and not before 8 A.M. in the morning in respect of local residents.

This training is part of basic training for the some of over three hundred and fifty recruits currently training at CRPTC. Training of this type allows the development and maintenance of crucial skills required for the military job function as mandated by government for the Canadian Forces.

The Department of National Defence is committed to supporting local communities surrounding the Connaught ranges and will provide advance notice of any activities that could generate concern such as loud noise or the use of pyrotechnic devices.

It is requested that media use all or part of the message above to assist in allaying the concerns of people living near the training area. Your assistance in this matter is appreciated.
