Public Service Announcement: Army Relay Team Arrives at Brampton

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 3, 2014) - Soldiers of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) will conduct a baton relay on September 9, 2014 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. They will run from the National Korean War Memorial, 7732 Marvis Road, to Gage Park, at the junction of Main Street South and Wellington Street West between 11 am and noon. Refer to the enclosed map for their route.

They are participating in the Memorial Baton Relay (MBR), a team comprised of soldiers running with a Memorial Baton containing the names of 1,866 PPCLI members who have fallen in active service to Canada. The MBR team is re-tracing the symbolic route taken by the Originals as they marshaled for service in 1914 on the eve of the First World War. The Memorial Baton is being relayed to Ottawa where it will arrive on September 18, 2014.

Motorists can expect minor delays from support vehicles and are urged to exercise caution when driving near the soldiers. The runners will be escorted by Peel Regional Police and members of Canadian Army Veterans Motorcycle Unit.

Those interested in meeting the MBR team are invited to a mobile military display at Gage Park, at the junction of Main Street South and Wellington Street West, between 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For more information on this and other PPCLI 100th Anniversary activities: www.ppcli.com
