Public Service Announcement: Army Relay Team Travelling on Highway of Heroes

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 3, 2014) - Soldiers of Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) will conduct a baton relay on September 10, 2014 between 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The group will be travelling in a convoy, to include a LAV 6.0, going east on Highway 401 from Toronto to the Afghanistan Memorial at CFB Trenton.

They are participating in the Memorial Baton Relay (MBR), a team comprised of soldiers running with a baton containing the names of 1,866 PPCLI members who have fallen in active service to Canada. The MBR team is re-tracing the symbolic route taken by the Originals as they marshaled for service in 1914 on the eve of the First World War. The Memorial Baton is being relayed to Ottawa where it will arrive on September 18, 2014.

Motorists can expect delays from support vehicles and are urged to exercise caution when passing the convoy. A police escort will be provided by Toronto Police Services within the GTA and Ontario Provincial Police the rest of the way to Trenton.
