Public Service Announcement: Canadian Armed Forces Conduct Parade

COBALT, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Feb. 2, 2015) - Approximately 100 members of The Algonquin Regiment, Canadian Rangers, and Army Cadets will conduct a "Freedom of the Municipality" parade in COBALT, ON at 11:00 a.m., February 8, 2015.

The parade departs the Arena at Argentine St. at 11:25 a.m. and will travel west along Silver Street, arriving at the town hall for a short presentation before proceeding west on Cobalt St. and Millar Ave until Buffalo Road where the parade will end. The parade route will be closed by the OPP from 11:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

The Freedom of the Municipality of Colbalt parade is a significant honour for the Regiment and is being held to commemorate the centennial establishment of an Infantry Company of The Algonquin Regiment within the town of Cobalt in 1915 as well as a recruiting drive made by the regiment one hundred years ago for recruits to join the 159th Battalion (1st Algonquins) CEF which deployed to the First World War.

Members of the community are invited to watch the parade as it moves along the traditional parade route through town. Following the parade, members of the community will be invited to make their way to the Arena for a community Barbecue. Everyone is invited to join us for lunch and converse with members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Members of the parade will be carrying swords as well as rifles with bayonets.
