Public Service Announcement: Military Reconnaissance Exercise in Le Val-Saint-Francois RCM

VALCARTIER, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - May 12, 2016) -

Residents of Le Val-Saint-François RCM and people passing through the area may notice around 50 soldiers training from May 15 to 20, 2016. The soldiers, from 2 Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment, will be practising military reconnaissance concepts that they recently learned at Valcartier.

The main command post, where activities will be coordinated, will be erected in Melbourne Township. For the most part, the manoeuvres will be in this area. Scenarios to be carried out include foot patrols, terrain observation and the acquisition of information on (fictional) enemy disposition with the aim of developing a strategy.

Once on site, the infantry soldiers will carry out most of their activities on foot. Around ten wheeled military vehicles will occasionally be used on various manoeuvres. Blank ammunition and pyrotechnics will be used for training purposes in accordance with appropriate safety rules.

To enhance their training, the soldiers sometimes need to conduct exercises outside of Valcartier Base in locations that are unfamiliar to them. The authorities of 2 Battalion would like to thank the residents of Le Val-Saint-François RCM in advance.
