Public Service Announcement: RCAF to conduct flybys for the NHL Heritage Classic Games


WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwired - Oct. 21, 2016) - National Defence/Canadian Armed Forces

The Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) will conduct flybys for the NHL Heritage Classic event between the Winnipeg Jets and the Edmonton Oilers in Winnipeg this weekend. The first flyby will occur shortly after 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 22 during the NHL Alumni Game, and the second during the NHL Heritage Classic event shortly after 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 23. The flybys will take place over the Investors Group Football Field on the University of Manitoba campus grounds.

The flybys will consist of the following aircraft:

a. NHL Alumni Game, Oct 22: a Vintage Wings Harvard and an RCAF CT-156 Harvard II formation; and
b. NHL Heritage Classic, Oct 23: three CT-114 Tutor (Snowbirds) and a CF-18 Hornet.

During the flybys, the aircraft will fly at an altitude no lower than 500 feet above the highest obstacle in their path before resuming a higher flying altitude for the return to home base at Bagotville, Que, and Moose Jaw, Sask.

Flybys by RCAF aircraft are carefully planned and closely controlled to ensure public safety at all times.
