Public Service Announcement: Walk/Run in Red Traffic Delay

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 4, 2009) - In the lead-up to Canadian Forces Day, approximately 2,500 military and civilian staff from the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces will participate in the third annual Red Walk/Run on Friday June 5, from 12:20 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in downtown Ottawa. This event celebrates the tremendous contributions that military personnel make to society, both at home and abroad.

Street closure will start at 12:00 p.m. until approximately 1:30 p.m. on both sides of the Rideau Canal. Traffic will be delayed on all streets intersecting with Colonel By Drive and Queen Elizabeth Drive. Closure will be from Daly Street and Colonel By Drive to the Bronson Avenue Bridge and from Bronson Avenue Bridge to Confederation Park on Queen Elizabeth Drive. Intersections within this trajectory will be blocked during the event. It is expected that traffic travelling from Wellington Street onto Colonel By Drive will be congested and alternate routes should be planned during this event.

Members of the general public who wish to express their support are invited to line the route and cheer.
