Pune Luxury Hotel Participates in Earth Hour 2013

Courtyard Pune Hinjewadi Unplugs for 60 Minutes to Send an Earth-Saving Message

PUNE, INDIA--(Marketwired - Apr 3, 2013) - For one hour on March 23rd, the entire globe banded together with one mission in mind -- to save the planet. Each year, Earth Hour encourages communities across the world to turn off the lights for just 60 minutes to bring attention to global warming and other environmental issues. The Courtyard Pune Hinjewadi was proud to participate.

"We take our role in protecting the environment very seriously," Ranju Alex, General Manager of the Courtyard Pune Hinjewadi, says. "We proudly work together to implement sustainable environmental practices including conservation of natural resources and reducing and recycling waste wherever possible."

Associates and guests of this Pune hotel and health club came together to celebrate, pledging themselves to be "green ambassadors." The hotel was lit by candles, and an Earth Hour tree and rangoli art were displayed in the lobby. A specially crafted cake was cut to commemorate the event.

Earth Hour is how Marriott kicks off Environmental Awareness Month, held every April to celebrate and share Marriott's commitment to the environment, which it shows through its operational practices; raise awareness of environmental issues; and encourage the community to get involved. "This is a great opportunity for Marriott hotels and business units to demonstrate our environmental commitment to associates, guests, owners, franchisees and communities worldwide," Bill Marriott, chairman of Marriott International, says.

The focus on environment is one of the core values of Marriott, which focuses its efforts on five areas including energy, water, waste and carbon; supply chain; green hotels; and engaging guests and associates. Earth Hour is just one example of how this Pune hotel is dealing with the rapidly changing state of the environment.

As a property that's surrounded by gorgeous landscaping, the Courtyard Pune Hinjewadi is reminded of the importance in being "green." Its Pune meeting space includes outdoor venues such as the Courtyard Lawns, which combined can seat up to 500 guests, making it a popular setting for weddings, receptions, cocktail parties and other celebrations. Without constant efforts to stay green, however, this and other beautiful outdoor spaces in the world are at risk of disappearing.
