Puppet Labs Announces Puppet Enterprise 2.0

New Version Adds Cloud Provisioning, Change Monitoring, and Management Orchestration, All From a Single Console

PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwire - Sep 22, 2011) - Puppet Labs, a leading provider of IT automation software for systems administrators, today announced the release of Puppet Enterprise 2.0. Puppet Enterprise 2.0 enables systems administrators to quickly provision infrastructure in Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2)™ or in their own data centers, comprehensively visualize changes in their infrastructure, and orchestrate management changes across clusters of nodes, all within an easy-to-use graphical interface.

"Puppet Enterprise 2.0 is a major milestone in Puppet Labs' mission to deliver powerful yet easy-to-use tools for systems administrators in companies of any size," said Luke Kanies, CEO of Puppet Labs. "Whether you're managing a handful of servers on-premise or thousands in the cloud, Puppet Enterprise 2.0 makes it dramatically easier to quickly provision new applications and respond to infrastructure changes, accelerating IT's delivery of value to the business."

Whether their organizations are using Amazon EC2 instances, physical servers, or private cloud VMware virtual machines, system administrators can use Puppet Enterprise 2.0 to rapidly create new infrastructure and immediately start managing it. Puppet Enterprise 2.0 builds on Puppet's model-driven approach, which allows systems administrators to specify their infrastructure by resource and clone these resources across nodes, ensuring consistency, predictability, and reliability not attainable using home-grown scripts or golden images.

Key features and functionality in Puppet Enterprise 2.0:

  • New graphical user console provides an intuitive way for systems administrators to leverage the power of Puppet. Right out of the box, it enables agile response and rapid scaling by locating existing resources in the network and cloning them to new nodes, maintaining continuous configuration management as the infrastructure expands.
  • Provisioning capabilities make it easy for systems administrators to quickly scale infrastructure using Amazon's EC2 cloud service or VMware in their own data centers.
  • New orchestration capabilities give systems administrators "command and control" power to efficiently make parallel changes across clusters of nodes with just a single command.
  • New baselining capabilities enable systems administrators to monitor their infrastructure's compliance against a desired-state, a critical input to comprehensive change management and auditing processes.
