Pure Nickel Inc. Appoints Dr. Larry Hulbert as Chief Exploration Officer

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - April 16, 2007) - Jay Jaski, Chairman and CEO of Pure Nickel Inc. ("Pure Nickel") (TSX VENTURE:NIC)(OTCBB:PNCKD) is pleased to announce that Dr. Larry Hulbert has been retained as the company's Chief Exploration Officer. Dr. Hulbert brings 35 years of extensive geological knowledge and technical expertise on Ni-Cu-PGE mineralization to Pure Nickel's exploration team.

Prior to joining Pure Nickel Dr. Hulbert worked for 23 years with the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) serving most recently as Senior Research Scientist specializing in the Metallogeny of Mafic-Ultramafic Rocks and associated Ni-Cu-PGE mineralization. His tenure with the GSC allowed him extensive opportunities to investigate and research Ni-Cu-PGE deposits within Canada and throughout the world.

When asked about his decision to become part of the Pure Nickel team Dr. Hulbert responded, "In my view, I see Pure Nickel as a rapidly growing company, focused on nickel and PGE discoveries in a dynamically evolving industry. It also has an aggressive, experienced management team with deep roots in the financial and mining capital markets. Pure Nickel's management and technical team will ensure the successful advancement of the company's projects towards future discoveries and high quality mineral resources".

Dr. Hulbert holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the University of Regina, and a D.Sc. from the University of Pretoria, South Africa. Dr. Hulbert began his nickel career in 1972 when he joined Sherritt Gordon Mines Ltd. as a mine geologist in the Lynn Lake nickel camp, in Manitoba. From 1978 to 1983 he worked at the Institute for Geological Research on the Bushveld Complex where he conducted researched on a number of Ni-Cu-PGE and PGE projects throughout the Bushveld Complex. After leaving South Africa, Dr. Hulbert continued his Bushveld research as a National Research Council of Canada Post Doctoral Fellow at the University of Saskatchewan.

He has also authored numerous professional papers, has been a Distinguished Lecturer for the Geological and Mineralogical Association of Canada lecturing on "Platinum Group Element Environments in Canada" and received a special merit award from Natural Resources Canada for his contributions to mineral development in the north.

Dr. Hulbert has been registered as a Professional Geoscientist since 2003 and as a Qualified Person for the purpose of National Instrument 43-101, will be reviewing future press releases and Company correspondence with respect to their technical content. Dr. Hulbert is aggressively recruiting new members for the exploration team.
