Pure Storage Selects Industry Veteran Bob Wood as Vice President of Engineering

New Addition to Executive Team Hails From NetApp, Decru and Harmonic; Tapped to Spearhead Product Evolution

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwire - Aug 25, 2011) - Pure Storage, the all-flash enterprise storage company, today announced it has appointed industry veteran Bob Wood as vice president of engineering. In this role, Wood will help formulate technology strategy, drive all product development and grow and manage the engineering team. Earlier this week Pure Storage emerged from stealth, introducing the industry's first all-flash enterprise array. The Pure Storage FlashArray was built to break the cost barrier to mainstream adoption of flash within the enterprise data center.

"Pure Storage is delighted to have a leader of Bob's track record and talent join us," said Scott Dietzen, CEO of Pure Storage. "Bob has unique breadth and depth in storage systems and knows how to drive innovative products in development. His addition to the team adds even more strength to our exceptional technical leadership bench."

Wood joins Pure Storage from Harmonic, where he served as senior vice president of engineering and was instrumental in driving key product development efforts. Previously, Wood served for four years as vice president of file system engineering at NetApp, where he was responsible for NetApp's WAFL file system and their next generation clustered file system. Wood joined NetApp in 2005 after the company acquired Decru, where he was part of the original executive team and was responsible for all product development during a period when the company tripled its global engineering organization. He holds a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics from University of Colorado, Boulder.

"Pure Storage has done a tremendous job building a world class product and engineering organization, and I'm excited to join this distinguished leadership team," said Wood. "The company has a very promising future, and I look forward to continuing the focus on innovation and leveraging my experience in enterprise storage to help make Pure Storage's technology a success."
