Purolator and the Stampeders Team Up to Tackle Hunger

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - July 18, 2012) - Purolator, Canada's largest shipping solutions providers, is proud to host its annual Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive in support of the Calgary Food Bank at the Stampeders vs. BC Lions game on July 28^th at McMahon Stadium. Media are encouraged to attend a pre-game celebration with running back Jon Cornish from the Calgary Stampeders who will visit the Calgary Food Bank with Purolator and the Grey Cup on Thursday, July 26^th to show support for the 10^th annual Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive. To celebrate this landmark season, Purolator is donating a refurbished delivery truck to the Calgary Food Bank.

On game day, Purolator is encouraging Stampeders fans to help tackle hunger by bringing a non-perishable food item or cash donation to the Purolator volunteers stationed at the stadium gates. In return, fans will have the opportunity to receive a digital photo with the Grey Cup and enter a season-long random draw to win a trip for two to the 100^th Grey Cup in Toronto. In addition to the food drive, every time a CFL quarterback gets sacked throughout the regular season, Purolator will donate the equivalent of the quarterback's weight in food to the CFL hometown food bank.

Last year, Calgary football fans helped raise more than 105,000 pounds of food through the game day food drive - nearly doubling efforts from the year before - for the Calgary Food Bank.

What: Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive at the Stampeders' game in support of the Calgary Food Bank

When: Saturday, July 28 - Starting at 5:00 p.m. until the end of the first quarter (game starts at 7 p.m.)

Where: McMahon Stadium - food collection to take place at all gates. The Grey Cup will be located in the East Parking Lot.

The Calgary Food Bank distributes emergency food to more than 12,250 people every month, in addition to sharing food with 100 local agencies. Most needed food donations include canned meat and fish, pasta, rice, baby formula, cereal, peanut butter, canned vegetables and fruit, canned beans, and cereal.

Fans can text TACKLE to 30333 to make a one-time donation of $5, which will be added to people's mobile phone bill. One hundred per cent of the proceeds support Food Banks Canada.
