Purolator Tackle Hunger Program Celebrates Tenth Year Anniversary Season in Calgary


CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - July 18, 2012) - Purolator, Canada's largest shipping solutions providers, is proud to host its annual Purolator Tackle Hunger food drive in support of the Calgary Food Bank at the Stampeders vs. BC Lions game on July 28th at McMahon Stadium. On game day, Purolator is encouraging Stampeders fans to help tackle hunger by bringing a non-perishable food item or cash donation to the Purolator volunteers stationed at the stadium gates. In return, fans will have the opportunity to receive a digital photo with the Grey Cup and enter a season-long random draw to win a trip for two to the 100th Grey Cup in Toronto. In addition to the food drive, every time a CFL quarterback gets sacked throughout the regular season, Purolator will donate the equivalent of the quarterback's weight in food to the CFL hometown food bank.

Last year, Calgary football fans helped raise more than 105,000 pounds of food through the game day food drive - nearly doubling efforts from the year before - for the Calgary Food Bank.

When: Saturday, July 28 - Starting at 5:00 p.m. until the end of the first quarter (game starts at 7 p.m.)

Where: McMahon Stadium - food collection to take place at all gates. The Grey Cup will be located in the East Parking Lot.

The Calgary Food Bank distributes emergency food to more than 12,250 people every month, in addition to sharing food with 100 local agencies. Most needed food donations include canned meat and fish, pasta, rice, baby formula, cereal, peanut butter, canned vegetables and fruit, canned beans, and cereal.

Fans can text TACKLE to 30333 to make a one-time donation of $5, which will be added to people's mobile phone bill. One hundred per cent of the proceeds support Food Banks Canada.
