Putnam Investments Launches Wealth Management Center for Advisors

Web Site Provides Wealth Management and Retirement Planning Ideas and Content

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwire - November 30, 2010) - In order to bring timely and insightful content to financial advisors and their clients, Putnam Investments has launched a new Wealth Management Center, accessible through Putnam's advisor Web site. The Wealth Management Center features ongoing commentary on a variety of financial planning subjects, including the latest developments around taxes, planning for retirement and other wealth-related strategies, and a wide range of investment and wealth management information, planning ideas and tools.

The Wealth Management Center addresses the needs of financial advisors in a way that is effective for them: 62 percent of high-producing advisors use news, commentary and information from asset manager Web sites and 77.5 percent of advisors use social media.1 By using this channel, Putnam is able to get to market quickly with timely content, dynamic commentary and relevant strategies that can help advisors in financial planning conversations with their clients.

Financial advisors can access the Wealth Management Center in several ways, including directly (www.putnam.com/wmc) or via the Putnam advisor homepage (www.putnam.com/advisor).

"Wealth management planning has never been more challenging. Increasingly, clients look to their advisors for what is called needs-based investing, in which advisors help them address specific needs and goals -- everything from helping them address longevity, market, taxes and inflation risks to helping them generate sufficient income in retirement. These are complex needs, and financial advisors need the most advanced information and planning tools at their disposal to help their clients achieve their goals," said Jeffrey R. Carney, Putnam Investments Head of Global Marketing, Products and Retirement. "The new Putnam Wealth Management Center provides advisors and their clients with a single source for all of Putnam's wealth planning resources and strategies."

The Wealth Management Center offers a range of content-rich features, including frequently updated blog-like posts on investment topics; a timely "planning idea of the week" to help advisors engage their clients in meaningful conversations which can lead to useful solutions and business-building opportunities; and links to all of Putnam's existing wealth management content, including a wide variety of investor education literature, financial planning videos, client seminars and online tools, posted by wealth management category:

  • Retirement/Income - Information on saving for retirement and managing income in retirement, including investor education, worksheets and calculators, client seminars and sales ideas and tools
  • Taxes - Client education articles and videos on a variety of tax-related topics, including updates on changes to tax law
  • Insurance/Risk Management - Principles and strategies for safeguarding wealth in volatile times including techniques for protecting assets from potential creditors
  • Estate and Wealth Transfer - Estate planning articles and seminars

"Perhaps the most value that financial advisors can provide to their clients is informed advice and solutions about how best to manage their wealth to achieve their life goals. The Putnam Wealth Management Center gives advisors access to timely information, planning ideas and other content they need to build their businesses and help their clients make informed decisions," said William D. Cass, Putnam Investments senior vice president, Putnam Retail Management.

Putnam's Commitment to Financial Advisors

Since Robert L. Reynolds became Putnam's president and chief executive officer in 2008, the company has deepened its commitment to financial advisors and launched a series of innovations and initiatives to meet the emerging needs of advisors and their clients. Putnam has emphasized the use of technology, especially the Web, to provide advisors with the tools and information they need to assist their clients.

This year, Putnam has launched a series of retirement initiatives, including a Lifetime Income(SM) Analysis Tool for plan participants, and groundbreaking fee transparency disclosures in its effort to provide the clearest, most complete overview of fees and expenses in the workplace savings industry. Earlier this year, Putnam launched a new, content-rich Roth IRA Conversion Resource Center with a full range of information about traditional IRA conversions, how to evaluate whether they make sense, what investors should consider before converting and how Putnam can help an advisor have this important conversation with their clients.

Putnam technology also has launched an online Global Sector Portfolio Modeling Tool, which allows advisors and investors to build model portfolios of the Putnam Global Sector Funds and compare the characteristics of such portfolios to the MSCI World Index. By adjusting the sector weightings to see how they affect portfolio characteristics and achieve various investor goals, advisors can more effectively help investors benefit from global markets.

Putnam also has expanded the services it offers to 401(k) retirement plans and developed products to meet the needs of those planning for or already in retirement. The firm has created a platform that provides flexible and scalable services and solutions for advisors, consultants and their plan sponsor clients in every segment of the retirement market.

Putnam also provides assistance for advisors working to help their clients meet other needs, including saving for college. Putnam, which offered one of the first advisor-sold 529 college savings plans a decade ago, recently launched Putnam 529 for America, its new, advisor-sold 529 college savings plan. Putnam 529 for America provides tax-advantaged, innovative strategies, including the only absolute return funds available in a 529 college savings plan, to help families pursue their college savings goals in a period of skyrocketing college costs, competing personal financial needs and volatile markets. As part of its commitment to the college savings market, Putnam also provides information to educate advisors and investors.
