Putting the Boots to Hunger

Annual Stampede Campaign Helps Families in Need

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - July 2, 2014) - The Calgary Food Bank and Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer (BD&P) are ready to launch the 6th annual Put the Boots to Hunger, a Stampede food & fundraising drive.

Leading up to and during the Calgary Stampede, donations are collected at public and private pancake breakfasts, company BBQs and other corporate events. BD&P also donates its chuckwagon tarp to the Calgary Food Bank as part of a unique fundraising initiative. Companies co-sponsor the chuckwagon each night of the ten day event, with proceeds going directly to the Food Bank. This year, High River local Jordie Fike will race the Put the Boots to Hunger chuckwagon at the 2014 Calgary Stampede GMC Rangeland Derby.

"An integral part of the BD&P culture is driven by our support for the wider community," says Grant Zawalsky, Managing Partner at BD&P. "The Put the Boots to Hunger campaign affords us the opportunity to recognize the true 'Stampede Spirit' of community support by helping local families in need obtain scarce food resources at a time when contributions are typically lower."

Calgary Food Bank CEO James McAra adds, "We are so pleased that BD&P has chosen to spearhead this important food drive for a sixth year in a row. What a great example of western cooperation!"

In 2013, the campaign raised more than 52,000 lbs of food and $230,000 in funds with an additional $315,000 in chuckwagon tarp sponsorships. For a complete list of events and sponsors, visit the Put the Boots to Hunger website or Facebook page.
