QinetiQ Cyber Expert to Appear at AusInnovate 2010

Cyveillance VP Eric Olson Discusses the Risk of Broadband Crime

FAIRFAX, VA--(Marketwire - May 16, 2010) -  QinetiQ North America's Eric Olson, of the company's Cyveillance unit, will speak on the implications of ubiquitous broadband -- and in particular the Australian National Broadband Network -- for cyber crime at the AusInnovate 2010 conference in Sydney, May 24, 2010.

"Broadband is fast-becoming ubiquitous. We are even seeing the developing world leapfrog wired networks in favor of the new technology," says Olson. "It's now common for people to live a big part of their life on the Net -- we all use it, but not enough of us understand it. Unfortunately, a lot of the people who do understand it are bad guys. They've found that the best way to attack a government, a company, a community, or a family is by going through you. And a firewall isn't going to keep them out. Social-engineering and malware attacks are getting more sophisticated and more narrowly targeted. Any device that touches the Net -- a computer, a phone, etc. -- is a way in for the bad actors. Broadband enables crime as effectively as it enables commerce."

Olson's presentation will begin at 3:15 in the conference venue at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour, Sydney. He will be available for comment and interview during the conference.
