Quality Built® Helps John Laing Homes Build Dream Home for Deserving Family for ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"

Quality Built Industry-Leading Risk Management Services Provide Peace of Mind to Builder for One of the Most Complicated Construction Projects in the Show's History

POWAY, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- November 3, 2005 -- Quality Built today announced that John Laing Homes, the second largest privately held homebuilder in the nation, used Quality Built's risk management services when the builder was invited by ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" to build a new home featured on the show's Sunday, Nov. 6, episode.

The Emmy-winning reality show involves an ABC design team and hundreds of volunteers who provide a deserving family with a dream home. The show's unique process involves the tear-down of an existing home and construction of a new home in one week. John Laing Homes Sacramento Division brought Quality Built onboard the project to help ensure that the home's quality was not compromised by the non-stop construction schedule.

"As the industry leader in construction risk management, we see what can go wrong on construction sites every day, and we know builders today face brutal challenges -- especially given the real estate market's continued high demand for new homes," said Stan Luhr, Quality Built founder and CEO. "John Laing Homes is known for its quality in the hidden details, and this house is spectacular -- even though it was built in a fraction of the time of an ordinary home."

Risk Management Services

Quality Built would normally start the quality assurance process with a Technical Plan Review™, during which architects with forensic experience for construction litigation perform a review of a builder's blue prints. For this project, Quality Built reviewed the blue prints two days prior to the start of construction, so the team identified key components to focus on.

Quality Built also provided a modified version of its Quality Assurance Site Observation services. Quality Built would normally use its propriety data-collection software to capture a builder's progress and use Red Tags to identify unacceptable components that need to be resolved. In this case, Quality Built manned the project around the clock, fixing issues as they were being built to ensure quality assurance.

"Having Quality Built on the 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' project site helped out when challenges came up with the home's components," said Kevin Carson, President, John Laing Homes Sacramento Division. "Since Quality Built has such a wealth of experience with the building industry's different products and systems, we were able to come up with alternate changes on the project immediately without getting behind schedule. Quality Built offered us that extra layer of security, ensuring even the smallest tolerances were kept."
